A couple months after Wes turned one, the picky eater in him came out and I've been a big ball of worry over it ever since. I definitely have my own love affair with chocolate, but nutrition and health for our family is very important to us. Lately we've gotten back into a good routine again with what we're eating and I thought I'd share what helps us get that nutrition in for our carb-loving boy. Fresh juice is one of the things he has always loved, but now he's actually asking for it everyday for his mid-morning snack. Pure vegetable/fruit juice is a genius way to get a ton of nutrients packed into one cup of goodness for your little one to enjoy.
We've had to play around a bit and discover which combinations are most appealing to him and I love that we can enjoy the process together. The day I took these photos we kept it simple with spinach, oranges and carrot (and yes he drinks all that spinach!). Some other things he likes in his juices are cucumbers, beet, grapefruit, apples, and kale. One of our favorites to share is half of one cucumber, one very large carrot, three oranges, one apple, two handfuls of spinach or a bunch of kale. The greens and the carrots are our staples and then we just add in whatever else sounds good that day. Because he doesn't drink any type of milk, the kale and spinach are very important and a great solution to getting that calcium in.
Another thing I love about juicing together is how much he is learning. Things like how to make his own food, how to be patient and work in the kitchen, the importance of nutrition and what the different vegetables are called. It feels nice to share one of my passions with him and have him experiencing along with me.
