I have been meaning to share a post of our favorite newborn/baby products since Ivy was an actual newborn, but am just getting to it now. So here we are! Our favorite items and honestly, the only things we use consistently. I am a huge believer in simplicity and that goes for baby stuff, too. There really isn't much you need, in my opinion, but it's easy to think that you do. If you've had a baby, you know that in the beginning you just want to get it right and have the best for your babe. I am the same way, but find that when I keep it to the essentials I don't feel overwhelmed with the stuff. Also, because I don't have every gadget/seat/toy out there, I can buy better quality products that will be used with all of my babies. I wouldn't say we went overboard on baby stuff with Wes, but there were things I never ended up using and then things I wish I'd had, that I was lucky enough to have with Ivy. I wasn't asked by any of these brands to post this, I just want to share what works for us and help someone else who feels overwhelmed by it all. I think one of the nice things about being in the mom club is that we get to share all of our secrets with each other & help each other out. Also note, these are just the things that have worked for us. I have not tried everything out there, these are just my opinions. Click on the bold links to find the product and I hope this helps!
Nipple Balm: I don’t think I need to explain what this is good for, but I do have to say that I want to shout from the roof tops how amazing this product is from Moonrise Creek. With Wes I was sore for weeks, but with Ivy I was lucky enough to have this and it was a game changer for me. I was completely healed within the first week of having her.
Sling: There are so many carriers, wraps and slings out there now. And I love it. It is so beneficial and essential for mom and baby to be close. It encourages a bond and connection, something our babies desperately need and deserve upon entering the world (and beyond!). Baby can find comfort in your heartbeat while you go about living life, getting any and every thing done that you need. We love baby wearing. Our favorite brands are Ergo Baby for a buckle carrier, Solly baby for wraps and Sakura Bloom for ring slings. I can honestly say I love each brand equally because they are all completely different and used for different needs, ages and situations.
Bath wash & lotion: Another amazing small business shop that I absolutely adore. I went through so many "natural" bath brands with Wes and was never completely happy with any of them. I was so happy to finally find Tubby Todd products earlier this year. There is nothing better than knowing the products you're using on your newborn are safe and made for delicate sensitive baby skin. A huge reason I love Tubby Todd is because the wash lathers SO much, you only need a tiny bit, which means the bottle lasts forever. Like a year forever.
Diaper bag: Now that I have two kids, a good diaper bag is essential. With one child I got away with running out the door with my regular small purse and my keys. I didn't feel the need for a big diaper bag and found it to be more a hassle than a help. But with two kids it's a new ball game and I have found myself needing one. Recently, Lily Jade sent us this beautiful bag and I am in love. I don't fall easily for bags. The reason I love it so much, honestly, is because of the backpack option. I think a huge reason I never like carrying a bag before was because it got in the way. With this, I can carry it around as a backpack and forget its there (while being super cute at the same time!). Also, so many pockets! It’s a really amazing product and I highly recommend it.
Swaddlers: You don’t need more than 3, in my opinion. We love the Aiden and Anais brand, but really there are so many great brands out there. We didn’t swaddle for long because I’ve had both my babies in summer, so thicker blankets for colder climates (obviously).
Mothers Spray: I got this Mothers Love spray from MommyCon last year and it was another game changer for me this time around. It helped soothe and heal ‘down there’ right after birth and if you’ve ever had a baby, you know this is a really nice thing to have!
Petite Soul Shop Bonnets: To keep tiny heads cold and of course, for the cuteness factor. I love supporting small businesses and cant say enough good things about Petite Soul.
Binki & Teething Toys: These two are for a little bit later, but for us it came quicker than expected. Ivy started gnawing at things around 2 months, so both of these have come in handy, and I love that they are made from natural materials. She doesn’t take a binki but loves to chew on the one from Natursutten and the teething ring from Chewable Charm.
Breast pump: Although I wouldn't say it’s absolutely essential, a pump is one of those things that is nice to have. It will help you in those first days while your milk comes and your boobs are about to explode. It can also come in handy if you want to donate or freeze milk for time away from your baby or if you end up pumping exclusively. We use the Medela Brand and love it.
Essential Oils: Used for so many things. Lavender for soothing anything and everything. I love having DigestZen on hand for those first several weeks when baby can be gassy and uncomfortable from it. (of course, consult with your pediatrician if you're uncomfortable with this). And On Guard for keeping the germs away. We use the DoTerra Brand.
Good food & rest: These things (not pictured ha!) are so important! Theres nothing better than snuggling for a couple weeks with your newborn while hubby brings you food.. am I right?
